What is happening with equipment type approval
ENACOM approved a new regulation for RAMATEL, the registry where telecommunications equipment is registered (ENACOM Resolution 57/2026). It was due to start on 1 September, but Resolution 843/2026 postponed it: the new scheme applies from 1 December 2026. Until 30 November, procedures follow the current scheme, based on Resolution 729/80.
What does not change
Any equipment that emits radio frequency (for example, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular networks or RF remote controls) must be type approved and registered in RAMATEL before it is sold in Argentina. That was already the case and it continues. In addition, online sales listings must show the RAMATEL registration number, or RAMATEL ID.
How it works today and from 1 December
- Until 30 November: the application is filed with ENACOM without a certification agency, and the registration is valid for three years.
- From 1 December: type approval is processed with a certificate from a certification agency and tests from a laboratory, both accredited by the OAA. Registrations do not expire, but mass-market equipment (Class A) goes through market surveillance every two years.
Registrations obtained under the current scheme keep their three-year validity. When that period ends, they must be adapted to the new regulation.
What to review
- Which models in your catalogue are not yet approved.
- Until when your existing registrations are valid.
- That your online listings show the RAMATEL ID.
- How long each pending application needs, considering test and ENACOM lead times, which are outside our control.
